Report: Big Spring man fell 80-100 feet while working on Christoval wind turbine

UPDATE: An incident report from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has revealed more details into the accidental falling death of Aaron Scott Johnson, 39.

At about 8:21 p.m. Tuesday, Schleicher County deputies responded to the Langford Wind Power Farm. Johnson had been working on refurbishing a wind turbine when he fell 80-100 feet. He was identified by his license, according to the report.

At 1 p.m. the wind farm employees were called for a "walk down," a meeting to discuss what still needed repairs. Johnson's supervisor noted he was not at the meeting and could not reach him via phone. About seven hours later, the supervisor began searching for him, according to the report.

The supervisor found Johnson unconscious and not breathing on the second deck level. Two of Johnson's coworkers helped the supervisor bring Johnson's body to the ground level, records state.

A Schleicher County assistant fire chief stated he was the first county official on scene and believed Johnson had been dead for several hours, according to the report. Johnson had "significant" head trauma and a left leg fracture.

INITIAL STORY: A Big Spring man died at a Christoval wind farm, and Tom Green County deputies are investigating, according to a Wednesday sheriff's office news release.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, deputies responded to the Langford Wind Power Farm in the 11000 block of Allen Road for an accidental fall victim, according to the release.

Aaron Scott Johnson, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office is investigating and have notified next of kin, according to the release. 

Johnson was working inside a wind tower when he fell, according to a company spokesman.
