Invenergy plans to use new turbine, eliminate 46 Alle-Catt turbine sites

Alle-Catt Wind Farm opponents spent the weekend addressing envelopes to Invenergy leaseholders pointing out plans to scale back the number of turbines in the 340-megawatt project spanning five towns. The letters being sent out by members of Farmersville United and Freedom United say as many as 46 of the 117 turbines in Freedom, Farmersville, Rushford, Centerville and Arcade “would be completely eliminated.”

Invenergy hopes to work with winners in Tuesday's town elections

Alle-Catt opponents were elected in three towns on Tuesday: Farmersville, Freedom and Rushford. Farmersville and Freedom elected majorities of candidates who are opposed to the wind farm due to setback issues, shadow flicker and infrasound concerns. The 2018 Freedom wind law was struck down in state Supreme Court in Cattaraugus County ...The new wind laws increased the maximum height of the turbines from 450 to 600 feet at Invenergy’s request.

Wind farm opponents buoyed by Farmersville, Freedom election wins

A coalition of local organizations opposed to the 106-square mile Alle-Catt wind farm proposal took majorities on two host towns and the supervisor’s position in a third host town in Tuesday’s elections. ...As a result of Tuesday night’s vote count, members of project opponents Freedom United and Farmersville United became the majority on their town boards.

Dissension in the air: Villenova hears pros, cons of turbines

Susan Baldwin, a longtime Villenova resident told a story of trying to call 911 three times in a row, to report an accident outside her home. According to her, calls kept dropping. In the end she explained that it took 40 minutes for police to arrive on scene, luckily, the victim was alright for the most part she added. Baldwin stated that when she questioned the police on the issue they, according to her, claim that calls get dropped all the time due to cell service. Following the reveal of this information Baldwin traveled to Verizon on Tuesday and was told “we had an inservice with the turbine people two years ago and they said that they’re going to put the turbines directly away, positioning for your house to not get missed and dropped calls. They are constant.”

Contentious meeting leads to a moratorium on eastern Broome wind turbine project

At the end, the opposition won, with the town board voting 4-0, with one abstention, to enact a stay on wind turbine development pending a town study to measure the potential impacts on "public health, safety and welfare, as well as other resources of the Town of Sanford." The moratorium lasts at least 90 days for the planning board-initiated review. The moratorium also prohibits erecting new meteorological towers by the sponsor to measure wind speed.

Deer River wind project hearings scheduled

Atlantic Wind, a subsidiary of developer Avangrid Renewables, plans to erect 25 wind turbines for its 101.4-megawatt project in the towns of Pinckney and Harrisburg. Before construction can begin, however, the developer must earn a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need from the state through its Article 10 review process.

On Wednesday, one of the motions was in opposition to construct wind turbine farms on Lake Erie. ...“We’re not interested and you’re not welcome here,” Bankoski said to any company who would like to build a wind turbine farm on Lake Erie. Six other legislators also spoke supporting the resolution stating reasons.

Sanford adopts 3-month moratorium on wind turbine development

A stall gives the town's planning board time  to assess the impact of a pending 27-tower green energy project planned for Sanford and Windsor in eastern Broome County. A final assessment could be delivered by September, planning board members said. Twenty-three turbines will be sited in Sanford, with four planned for Windsor.

A Town of Guilford board meeting discussing a proposed windmill project was held at the town garage Wednesday to accommodate the more than 80 local residents who turned out to share concerns over it. At a heated moment in last night’s meeting town board members attempted to end the ongoing public comments. Several in the audience stood to object, some shouted.

Attorney cites Invenergy fine over failure to disclose municipal wind lease conflicts

An attorney representing opponents to the Alle-Catt Wind Farm said Tuesday the developer violated the state Attorney General’s Code of Conduct in failing to publicize potential conflicts of interest among municipal officials and their relatives with wind contracts. Ginger Schroder, an attorney from Farmersville who represents residents opposed to the proposed 600-foot wind turbines, said Invenergy was fined $25,000 for violating the Code of Conduct which is designed to prevent “even the appearance of conflicts of interests.”

Petition to amend Cassadaga Wind’s certificate denied

Burgess went on to explain that only the certificate holder — Cassadaga Wind, LLC — could petition the siting board to amend their certificate and that requests to amend the certificate made by any other party would be interpreted as requests for rehearing, “the avenue available to any party aggrieved by a decision by the Siting Board.”
