Broken, burned-out towers pose possible threat to public

Dozens of other towers are locked down, either because of internal damage that can’t be observed without a detailed inspection or because of other problems that could be impacting their operations.

Dropped turbine part could lead to lawsuit

A claim might be filed against the Port of Lewiston after a wind turbine component being unloaded from a barge dropped 8 to 10 feet. Omega Morgan, a company involved in handling the cargo, sent the Port of Lewiston a notice of intent to file a claim that doesn’t specify an amount after an Oct. 23 mishap involving a base of a wind turbine tower, Port Manager David Doeringsfeld said.

Another Vestas wind turbine blade breaks and falls, this time in Iowa

MidAmerican Energy, has idled more than 40 wind turbines at Iowa wind farms after a 50 metre-long turbine blade broke off and fell into a field last week. ...“The turbine that had the blade failure last week is the same type of turbine that had a blade failure last month in Adair Countym” he said. “They also had the same type of lightning system in them that channels lightning from a strike near a wind turbine blade down into the ground safely.
